The knight jumps two squares in one direction and one perpendicular. It can jump over pieces.

What are the sixteen pieces called?
Each side starts with one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights and eight pawns — thirty-two pieces on the board in total.
Is it a rook or a castle?
The piece is a rook. "Castle" comes from its shape, but castling is the separate move the rook makes together with the king.
Which piece is worth the most?
The queen, at nine points. The king carries no value because it is never captured — losing it simply ends the game.
